Aid Relief

In some ways the internet and social media make an event like the recent March 10 Japan earthquake-tsunami very close. At the same time, however, being so highly informed, so quickly, yet geographically far, feels estranged, powerless and voyeuristic. How do we move beyond the news, beyond spectatorship, and ACT? Out of a sense of grief for the people of Japan, as well as a hope ultimately for positive social and community growth, we organized this campaign of giving for the Japanese people. Since we make things, the best thing we could think to give Japan is something we made. We made these three artworks based in Japanese history and mythology, pieces that represent the beauty and strength of the Japanese soul, especially in juxtaposition to the power of its ubiquitous and temperamental neighbor, the sea. Printed on organic cotton American Apparel t-shirts, 100% of the proceeds go to aid relief in Japan.
